I am presenting you herewith the Annual Report for the year 2002 in regard to the mixed bag of performance produced by the Saraswati Kunj Cricket Club.
Some observations of mine for the year on a whole are mentioned below. The in-depth profile evaluating each players performance is also specified below.
To say the most unwanted thing, the batsmen and the bowlers did not deliver all this year. Even the most respectable totals like 149 in an innings were not successfully defended by the most experience bowling attack of our club. A few batsmen like Anubhav and Satyam salvaged some pride for themselves, rest failed in misery. Anubhav became the first player to cross 300+ and 400+ runs in the year, closely followed all this year by Satyam. While the leading scorer till May 2002 was Gautam with Ashish just behind him all the time. Things went terribly wrong for both of them from their, and Anubhav, Satyam and Mr. Mehta showed a real character by scoring consistently as the two most consistent players suddenly stopped scoring. Not to miss that Ankur Saini was missing in action all this year. He is still the top overall run getter of all time in our club. Ankur bowling and batting talent weas missed terribly all throughout this year, as his bowling alone used to be the trademark of most wins secured by our club.
I will also like to mention here a few batting starts we used to get were not enough which used to create pressure on the players coming down the order, which was felt too late in the year, as some urgency creeped in the first 3-4 batsmen, which gave us good scores in the later half of the year. The reason why Anubhav and Satyam are among top two run scorers is the fact that they used to consume the bulk of bowling. But there is no reason to complaint, as we still used to be get plenty of overs to play with the other 8 batsmen, this is where Mr. Mehta comes in. His nature of playing slow and building his innings with patience helped him improve his overall and this years batting average. He finished believe it or not at the Fourth position for the year 2002. It was a disastrous year for both Gautam and Ashish, they can deliver much more than they did, and I believe they will come this year 2003. The most shocking and unbelievable thing to see was that the most unexpected bowler was the top wicket taker for the year 2002, I think that sums it all. Though all my admiration goes to Shobit, Amrish and Karan who stood up to the challenge, but the going against us was too tough. Though Karan played less matches this year, his bowling was commendable. But results were still missing.
Our Fielding was horrible to start with this year. Many of the most easiest catches were dropped by the most unexpected players. I will not alike to name them, but hn they read this report they will make out themeseleves who am I talking about. Ashish, Karan, Amit Aggarwal were among the top fielders in this year. Let me also take this opportunity to mention the good work put in especially by Amit Aggarwal in his consistent and excellent wicket keeping. He took some good catches and also helped in some beautiful run-outs. Rajesh Verma was as ever a disgrace to our fielding exhibition. He sincerely need to work on it a lot.
On overall basis, if I had to sum up our performance in this year it was a MIXED BAGGAGE, with some good performances and some very ordinary performances. I hope that we may be able to improve on all our mistakes come this year 2003. There are some areas like bowling, fielding and reckless batting that need to be talked to the top ranked players like Anubhav, Gautam, Satyam and Ashish that they are the ones who have to score runs in the matches and not Shobit, Karan and Amrish. If they get this attitude in there batting then I wonder which team will be able to beat us, I cant think of any..
Cheers, hope for the best this year.
